Who We Are
The McKee story began during the height of the Great Depression when young entrepreneur O.D. McKee began selling 5¢ snack cakes from the back of his 1928 Whippet. In 1934, he and his wife, Ruth, bought a small, failing bakery, using the family car as collateral. Money was so tight they had to put up a sheet near the back of the bakery for the family's living quarters.
Despite years of great adversity, O.D. and Ruth's rare determination finally began to pay off in 1960 when they began selling the first family pack of baked goods, naming them after their granddaughter, Debbie. Around this time, the company finally began making a steady profit.

A Family Bakery
The bakery continued to grow but remained a family bakery. O.D. and Ruth’s sons, Ellsworth and Jack, eventually took leadership positions, and today Ellsworth and Jack's children hold leadership roles. They are beginning to introduce the 4th generation of the McKee family to the business.
McKee Foods stands as a living legacy of a young couple with a big dream. O.D. and Ruth shared a strong commitment to family values that remains our company's foundation today.

BRAND HISTORY
In 1960, McKee Foods founder O.D. McKee was trying to come up with a catchy name for their new family-pack cartons of snack cakes. Thinking of what could be a good fit for the brand, O.D. arrived at the name of his 4-year-old granddaughter Debbie. Inspired by a photo of Debbie in play clothes and her favorite straw hat, he decided to use the name Little Debbie and the image of her on the logo. Not until the first cartons were being printed did Debbie's parents, Ellsworth and Sharon McKee, discover that their daughter was the namesake of the new brand.
The First Family Pack
The first family pack was produced in August of 1960 and consisted of the original snack cake, the Oatmeal Creme Pie.
Did You Know?
Family packs were one of the first multiple-item baked goods available with individually wrapped products. The cost per carton was only 49 cents. By combining a quality product with outstanding value, Little Debbie quickly became a member of America's households. After its initial introduction, more than 14 million cakes were sold within 10 months. While the Oatmeal Creme Pie was the original Little Debbie snack cake, there were 14 different varieties by 1964 including the ever-popular Nutty Buddy Wafer Bars and Swiss Cake Roll.
Since 1960, Little Debbie snacks have remained a value leader. Currently, they sell for less than other leading brands while providing quality products. More than 75 varieties are available. Little Debbie snacks are available in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, as well as on U.S. military bases throughout the world.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these Honey Buns individually wrapped for easy packing in a child's lunchbox?
Yes. Each pastry has an individual wrapper, making it convenient to pack in a lunchbox, after-school snack bag, or other travel bag while helping keep each bun fresh.
Can I give a Honey Bun to my child without preparing it first?
Yes. The pastries are ready to eat straight from the package, which makes them convenient for snacks at school, after school, or between family meals.
Does the soft pastry texture make these buns easy for children to eat?
The soft pastry-swirl formulation is designed to be easy to eat and has a melt-in-your-mouth texture. As with any bakery-style snack, supervise young children and cut pastries into age-appropriate pieces when needed.
Can I warm a Honey Bun for my child's breakfast or snack?
Yes. Place a bun on a microwave-safe plate or paper towel and heat briefly according to your microwave's guidance. Start with a short heating interval for a warm treat and check before serving.
Are these individually wrapped Honey Buns kosher certified?
Yes. They are kosher certified for shoppers who observe kosher diets. The product contains wheat, milk, eggs, and soy, so check the package for complete allergen information.
Are Little Debbie Honey Buns a suitable snack for parents buying for children?
They are a convenient option for lunchboxes, after-school snacks, family treats, and travel bags. The six-pack provides individually wrapped portions, while the sweet cinnamon-and-honey flavor appeals to many children.
Will one individually wrapped Honey Bun be enough for my child's snack break?
One bun offers a ready-to-eat snack on its own. You can pair it with fruit, yogurt, or another balanced food for a more complete snack, or serve another pastry for a larger appetite.
Can I use these Honey Buns to make a special French toast breakfast for my family?
Yes. The package includes recipe ideas for Honey Bun French Toast and Honey Bun Monkey Bread, giving you a simple way to turn the pastries into a breakfast or weekend family treat.
How do these Honey Buns compare with packaged snack cakes for a children's lunchbox?
Little Debbie Honey Buns provide a soft pastry swirl with cinnamon, honey, and glaze, while still offering the convenience of individual wrapping. Snack cakes may offer a different texture or flavor profile, so consider your child's preferences and allergy needs.
Are these Honey Buns similar to sweet bread rolls or Danish-style pastries?
They are more similar to a soft, glazed sweet bun or cinnamon pastry swirl than to plain dinner rolls. Each is smaller and individually wrapped for convenient portioning.
What could keep a parent from choosing these Honey Buns for a child?
The main consideration is the presence of common allergens: wheat, milk, eggs, and soy. Also note that they are sweet pastries rather than lower-sugar or whole-grain options, so review the nutrition label for your family's needs.
How should I warm a Little Debbie Honey Bun in the microwave?
Place the bun on a microwave-safe plate or paper towel, heat briefly using your microwave's guidance, and let it cool before eating. Start with a short interval for a softer center and add more time only as needed.
Can I use Honey Buns to make French toast or monkey bread?
Yes. The package provides recipe ideas for Honey Bun French Toast and Honey Bun Monkey Bread. Follow the included directions and use your own oven and microwave to prepare the recipes.
How should I store the Honey Buns to keep them fresh?
Keep the box tightly closed in a cool, dry place, and leave the individual wrappers in place until you are ready to eat a pastry. For longer storage, follow the package instructions.
Does this product work with a coffee maker, tea setup, lunchbox, or travel bag?
The pastries pair well with coffee and tea, fit conveniently in lunchboxes and travel bags, and can be eaten cold or warmed in a microwave. They do not require any special equipment beyond a cup or a microwave-safe dish for warming.
Can I serve Honey Buns with both coffee and tea?
Yes. The sweet cinnamon-and-honey flavor and light glaze complement either beverage. The product is not a coffee or tea accessory, but it is designed to pair naturally with both.
What comes in the box?
The 10.6-ounce box contains six Little Debbie Honey Buns, each individually wrapped. No additional equipment or ingredients are required to eat them cold; ingredients and recipe ideas for other preparations are listed on the package.
Are Little Debbie Honey Buns safe to eat for people with common food allergies?
The product contains wheat, milk, eggs, and soy, which are major allergens. Anyone with a relevant allergy or sensitivity should check the current package information and avoid the product if necessary.
How should I store the box after opening it?
Reseal or close the box securely and keep it in a cool, dry place. Do not remove the individual wrappers from the remaining buns, and follow any additional storage guidance printed on the package.
What is the difference between Honey Buns and other sweet breakfast pastries?
Honey Buns have a soft pastry-swirl texture with cinnamon, dried honey, and a light glaze. Other sweet breakfast pastries may be bread-based, muffin-shaped, frosted, or individually portioned, so the main differences involve flavor, texture, size, and packaging.
